  1. If you look at the AL Champion Tigers of ’06 and you look at their team in 07/08, the only change is they’ve gotten better on paper. You could blame age, but their rotation is still relatively young, excluding Kenny Rogers and including Dontrelle Willis, if you even want to count him anymore. Great comparison with the 90’s Mets, at least that Kent trade helped the Jays beat the Phillies and the Braves (Met division rivals) in ’92 ’93. That might be the only good thing out of a deal that they made in those years.

  2. I have to agree with your assessment of Willie Randolph. He has officially put himself in the driver’s seat (for the 2010 season) by accepting the Brewers bench coach position. It’s a win-win for everyone. Willie remains connected with the game and its inner circles and Brewers fans like myself, get a great coach on the bench for at least a year(maybe Willie can teach Rickie Weeks how to play the game). Willie has officially been crossed off the list for the Mariners job, but like every year, there will be openings.

Macha was only given two years because this team is ready to win now. If Doug Melvin thought this would be a project, Macha would have been given 3+ years to put it together. If they can figure out how to bolster that starting rotation, they will contend once again in ’09.

I’ve written my own ’09 Brewers forecast…check it out.
