A brief snippet from Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (copied from http://www.imdb.com) that is apropos for this moment upon the revelation of the news that the Colorado Rockies have traded Jason Jennings to the Houston Astros for Willy Taveras; Taylor Buchholz; and Jason Hirsh:
The Imperial Fleet has just come out of light speed to the Hoth solar system in which the rebellion is hiding; Darth Vader is informed by a subordinate of a glitch in the plan to bombard the planet and attack from the safety of space.
What is it, General?
My Lord, the fleet has moved out of lightspeed. Com Scan has detected
an energy field protecting an area of the sixth planet of the Hoth
System. The field is strong enough to deflect any bombardment.
The Rebels are alerted to our presence. Admiral Ozzel came out of lightspeed too close to the system.
He felt surprise was wiser…
He is as clumsy as he is stupid. General, prepare your troops for a surface attack.
Yes, my Lord.
Darth Vader then turns to the communication screen to briefly discuss the blunder with Admiral Ozzel and his underofficer Captain Piett:
Admiral Ozzel: Lord Vader, the fleet has moved out of lightspeed and we’re preparing to…
(Darth Vader begins using the force to throttle Admiral Ozzel.)
Darth Vader: You have failed me for the last time, Admiral. Captain Piett?
Captain Piett: Yes, my lord?
Darth Vader: Make ready to land our troops beyond their energy field, and deploy the fleet, so that nothing gets off the system.
(Admiral Ozzel falls over dead.)
Darth Vader: You are in command now, Admiral Piett.
Admiral Piett: Thank you, Lord Vader.
Suffice it to say that Dan O’Dowd is lucky that my Sith alter ego Darth Escribus is not his direct superior with the Colorado Rockies (although I would replace throttling him with simply firing him—-immediately). Clumsy and stupid indeed.
And yes, I am a Star Wars geek.
